Troubleshooting
Find a fix for installation, panel controls or the finished render.
Installing
Section titled “Installing”There is no GlassWare tab
Section titled “There is no GlassWare tab”Hover over the 3D Viewport and press N. The tab sits on the sidebar’s right edge. Still missing? Make sure the Addon is ticked in Edit › Preferences › Add-ons.
The install fails or nothing appears
Section titled “The install fails or nothing appears”- Use Blender 5.0 or newer.
- Install the ZIP ending in
Blender_Addon.zip, still zipped. The FBX and OBJ archives are not Addons. - On an error, restart Blender and try once more. If it fails again, send the full error.
In the panel
Section titled “In the panel”Controls do nothing
Section titled “Controls do nothing”Select a GlassWare glass first. The row above the tabs names the active glass, and edits reach every selected glass.
If a value changes but nothing shows, see the render fixes.
A change reached more glasses than I meant
Section titled “A change reached more glasses than I meant”Edits reach every selected glass. A copy made with Alt D also shares its material and drink with the original.
To split a linked copy, select its parts and use Object › Relations › Make Single User with object data and materials ticked (Blender manual). Use Shift D for independent copies.
A control or button is missing
Section titled “A control or button is missing”Some are hidden to keep the panel short. Turn them on in Gear › Settings › Panel Layout, or Presets & Backup for preset lists.
I cannot find a glass or drink
Section titled “I cannot find a glass or drink”Clear the category and search filters in the picker. Saved drinks are under Custom Drinks, starred ones under Favorites.
The panel warns that the drink is above the lowest chip
Section titled “The panel warns that the drink is above the lowest chip”A chip sits below the drink line, where a real glass would leak. Lower Fill, or bring Chip Band down so chips stay near the rim.
In the render
Section titled “In the render”The drink is missing or flat in the viewport
Section titled “The drink is missing or flat in the viewport”Set Render Engine to Cycles and switch the viewport to Rendered shading.
The glass looks frosted or opaque
Section titled “The glass looks frosted or opaque”Pick Glass › Clear and check a Cycles render. On a custom material, lower Roughness.
The drink looks dark or muddy
Section titled “The drink looks dark or muddy”- Click Gear › Render Guide › Apply All.
- Compare in Create Test Scene.
- If it looks right there, check your lighting and the glass’s size. Oversized glasses make darker drinks, and a light behind or beside the glass shows off the drink.
Black patches inside the glass
Section titled “Black patches inside the glass”Raise Total and Transmission bounces to 24 or more in the Render Guide. Go higher when glasses stand behind one another.
A cloudy drink has a dark patch like a shadow
Section titled “A cloudy drink has a dark patch like a shadow”Turn on Reflective and Refractive under Light Paths › Caustics.
There is no bright spot of light under the glass
Section titled “There is no bright spot of light under the glass”Turn on Gear › Settings › Advanced › Glass Shadow Caustics and Shadow Caustics on the light. Both are needed.
The viewport and the render look different
Section titled “The viewport and the render look different”That is expected with Game Ready and Hybrid quality and with lowered Viewport Detail. Hybrid still renders at full detail.
The viewport is slow
Section titled “The viewport is slow”Use Hybrid quality and lower Viewport Detail on heavy effects. Renders keep full detail. More in Performance.
